Coming home

Most people who have c-sections get released three days after surgery... so I should've gone home sometime on a Tuesday since my surgery was on Saturday... but the nurses and all the Dr's that came to check on me said that I was the picture of a golden recovery so if I was feeling up to it I could leave on Monday!  That is fast for having major surgery!  But, honestly, it was going to be easier on everybody the sooner I could get out of the hospital.  Mainly because that meant that Gaetan wouldn't have to be back and forth between the hospital and home, and I can only imagine that my Mom was getting tired chasing these two around, so the sooner we could get home to help watch was going to be good.  And, being in the hospital you have people coming in to check your vitals at all hours of the night and the hospital isn't really that comfortable...  And to top it off starting off the week construction and resumed on the floor beneath us, so it sounded like they were remodeling right in your room!  It was quite the rude awakening!  It would be one thing if it was a nice constant hum or noise but it was very sporatic and the noises their tools where making where very unsettling!  Another reason to get out of there was definitely the nurses.  I've experienced this with all the kids but the weekend/night nurses at St. Marys are far superior to the weekday/day nurses.  I'm not sure why but they just are.  The competent level of their levels seems to steadily decline as the sun comes up and the regular work week begins...

Momma and Norah's last nap before we left

So, we got ourselves out of there on Monday night!  We started getting everything ready for discharge in the afternoon, but it takes some time to get all set, so we probably got home around 6 or 7.  It was still enough time to see our crazy kids (enough time for Lucy to make fun of my inability to walk...) and get thing settled for Norah before everybody had to get ready for bed.  It felt good to be out of the hospital, but I was definitely feeling the pain.  I also had to get the Dr's to give me a different prescription because I don't do so well with vicodin so that meant I was going to be pain-relief free for the night... oof.  I was doubting a little bit if I had come home to soon, but I know that I hadn't.

First night asleep
My Mom was back to having her phone on her so when I needed help with Norah she could get up and help.  At first it was for pretty much everything... when Norah would get fussy I would need help getting her to feed her, change her etc etc.  And since she was still learning how to eat and my milk wasn't fully in it took quite a long while for feeding.  Sometimes 30-45 minutes per side... so my Mom and I had a lot of bonding time together.  It was really nice.  And if we were both going to have to be awake it helped pass the time.

Our first night together.  Sweet sweet girl

Lucy wanted a turn in Norah's seat too
I am thankful for my Mom who has been ever so helpful through this recovery.  I know that she is looking forward to getting more sleep, and I am loving that I can do more for myself and my family!  Norah is now a very efficient eater... she can get her whole routine (eating, diaper change, eating and burping) under 45 minutes!  And that's me hobbling around and walking slowly to get places.  :)  Things are looking up and we are recovering at a nice clip.  Looking forward to getting back to life as normal with our THREE kids.  Happy family. :)
