VBS

Jane asked me if I wanted to sign Dude up for VBS with Ava at the church where she does her preschool and I thought that it would be a good opportunity for Dude to get some more exposure.  That, and he absolutely loves hanging out with Ava.  Ava's preschool is a co-op so it's less expensive to go but you have to work at the school more, which can be nice so you can see what's going on, but hard if you have other kids!  This is the same place where Dude has his music class so he is familiar with the building.  This also presented Dude with a very busy week... He had swim class from 10:30-11 in the morning and then VBS from 1-4!  So, he basically came home from swim, had a shower and a snack and was off again for a few hours.  Busy busy busy!

I got to drop Dude off the first day because G was working and honestly, it was really hard.  He didn't seem to have a problem with it at all.  We got him checked in and then off he walked to his preschool section.  I knew ahead of time that Ava wasn't going to be there the first day but didn't say anything because I didn't want him to resist going... but he didn't seem to mind that she wasn't there.  As he walked up there all independent my Mom senses were on overdrive... I admit, I cried a little.  It was hard.  I'm not sure why but it was.  I made it through though and he seemed to have a blast!  The theme for this VBS was Workshop of Wonder (WOW) so they did science experiments which of course Dude loved!  So, they do a bible story, followed by an experiment and then a craft.  And, he is really into crafts right now, so everything was right up his ally!

First day: They did the story of Esther.  He was telling me that they went outside and did the mentos and pop thing and he LOVED it.  He came home with a crown that they decorated.  He looked like such a little boy.

Second day: They did the story of the Mustard seed and made a lava lamp.  Oil, water and some food coloring and you've got yourself a lava lamp!  They decorated this little clay pot for planting marigold seeds (which are very tiny like mustard seeds).

Third: Was the Feeding of the 5000.  It was a rain day and they were supposed to do lava but didn't due to weather.  I was surprised that this was the only rain day they had!  He came home with a homemade kite.

Fourth and final day: Was Road to Emmaus.  They made ooblick, which is corn starch and water.  They sent him home with the water bottle that they got at the beginning of the week and their name tags.  He was thrilled!

I know that he had a lot of fun and I'm glad that he was able to do it with a friend.  :)  Helped us all grow a little that week.
