Farmers Market

One of the things that I love about summer is the farmer's market!  I love going there to see vendors with their goods and all the locals buying fresh, local food!  I also like taking the kids there for exposure too... I think that it's a good thing that they know, and like going to, the farmer's market.  :)

This was our first time going this year and it was great.  We went on a not so busy day but still came home with lots of goodies.  I got this huge bag of kale, about the size of my torso, for only $2, some zucchini, summer squash and a cabbage (also for $2).  My brain was just scheming of all the delicious things we could have with this FRESH produce.

First things first though... kale chips.  I feel like they have been talked about a lot lately, and seeing how they're so good for you I had to give them a try.  Verdict:  It lives up to all the talk.  Raw kale has a bit of a stomach turning smell to them, and I haven't tried it raw, but DANG it makes delicious chips.  I just tossed mine in a little bit of oil, and salted before I put it in the oven for 20 minutes or so.  You can definitely smell it cooking... and I just pulled them out when they were crispy.  Voila!  Tasty, crunchy, salty, HEALTHY snack in just a little bit.

While we were there the kids scored free stuff... they always do.  Lucy got some granola and Dude got some plums.  They were pretty pleased with themselves.  Looking forward to more fresh, yummy food!
