Housing woes

This has been a long week.  Our week started off when I got a hold of the lady from Marsh Pointe (The apartment/condo we figured we were moving into) and she told us that she gave our place away to somebody else.  I couldn't believe it.  When we had gone for a walk through she said that we were next on the list and she just had to figure out what floor was going to be open.  Then, she was going to call us so that we knew, but she was pretty sure it was the first floor (which was what we wanted).  I called her to follow up and didn't get a call back, and then a few days later I called again and she picked up.  Then, she has the audacity to get sassy with me when I asked her why she thought that it was professional to give our spot away without calling us first.  Here's the whole story.

A couple days after we had seen the place a friend from high school and his girlfriend were in town so I went out to dinner with them and another couple.  They were moving up here from South Carolina and were looking for places because they both got jobs in Kalamazoo.  I was telling them about all the places we liked and had seen, and didn't like (area wise).  I told them about Marsh Pointe and they said that they looked at it but wasn't that interested.  I told them that we were next on the list and we were just waiting to hear back from her so we knew when we could move in.  Well, when I called Barb back (the stupid cow from the office) she said that this other couple had come in with a down payment and paid for everything.  That they wanted to sign a lease right then and there and she didn't tell them no.  And can everybody guess who that couple was?  You got it.  The friend from high school.  I was beyond pissed.  I was first pissed because she didn't tell us that we could do that to secure our spot and then she was so unprofessional about it on the phone.  When you promise a place to somebody else you don't give it away and then say, "well, what do you want me to do about it?  It is what it is."  No, you apologize and better hope that I don't find out who your boss is.  Then, I felt betrayed that my friend would do that.  He knew that we were trying to get out of our place because our neighbors are constantly smoking and our places smells like an old bar and it's making us all sick.  I was so unbelievably mad.

Not only did we think we had a place to live, now we had to start looking for places all over again.  Part of the reason why I don't like moving is all the shifting through places and making sure they are ghetto or that we can afford them.  It's draining.  So, after all that hit the fan we had a few prospects and did some drive bys.  One place had a lot of great things to offer, but I didn't love the actual apartment.  The one place that we actually filled out and application and gave them money to hold our spot (something that stupid cow Barb didn't tell us we could do) said that we didn't make enough to live there.  That just floored me! What!?  This place is actually cheaper than the place that we live now, and they said that we don't qualify?  Well, they gave us a deal, (which I didn't like at all) and said that if we paid 6 months rent up front then we could live there.  You're kidding me right?  We had the money to do it, but the whole thing seemed sketchy... so we didn't.  Back to the drawing board again.  ::sigh::

However, I think that we might've found a place that we really really like.  We have a walk through tomorrow and I'm really excited about.  I will have you let you know what we find out and if we will be moving soon!  I hope it works out because I really just don't want to keep this hanging over our head.
