Surprise solo home birth.

Our good friends DJ and Hannah are expecting their second child at the end of July.  We got to see them recently and cute little Hannah didn't even look that big!  I was wondering if she had Ethan yet, because she was early with her first (Benjamin) and she thought that she was going to be early this time too.

Well... Ethan arrived 2.5 weeks early!  I saw on FB so we called them up to see how everything was going.  DJ had quite the story to tell...

Apparently she had been in labor since the morning time, but wasn't really feeling much.  So she went on with her day.  During the afternoon she suggested that DJ take Benjamin for a car ride so he could get in a little nap.  Not really thinking much of it DJ grabbed Benjamin's overnight bag that they packed for when she did go into labor because her parents were going to watch him.  While they were driving there (and I guess they live relatively close) Hannah called DJ and told him that maybe it was a good idea to drop him off at her parents (even though he was already on his way).  Then, a little while later she called back and said that DJ needed to come home right now because she was having this baby and soon... she said she could see his head!  WHAT?!  I would be flipping a nut right now.  So, I guess he called an ambulance and rushed back to the house.

Proud Papa

She looks frickin' fabulous for just having a solo home birth.  Happy family. :)
However, in that time she already had the baby... the ambulance arrived about 4 minutes after he was born and DJ arrived shortly there after.  Hannah is the man.  I can't even being to fathom what that would've been like.  First of all, home birth.  Really?  And it's one thing when you're planning on having it at home, so you have everything kinda planned out, but they were definitely planning on going to the hospital.  Secondly, BY YOURSELF?!  I can see the pros if you think the other person isn't going to be that helpful, but I can guarantee you that she didn't plan this or even want it.  But, being the awesome Mom and person she is, just did got it done.  I mean, really, what else can you do?  But seriously.

They did end up going to the hospital anyways just to make sure baby and Mom were OK.  The little peanut was 6 lb. 8 oz with some seriously huge hands and feet.  We are so excited for them and the new challenges and joys having two little ones will bring.  I think Benjamin is going to be two in a few months, so they definitely will have their hands full.  :)
