Half marathon on the 4th of July

On Tuesday we got the chance to hang out with Amy again!  Ever since we picked her up from the airport on Saturday Dude has been asking where she went.  When I told him that she was going to come over that day and spend the night he was so excited.  When she got here we got some ice cream that seriously was a big ole puddle by the time we got home (and we live about 1.5 miles away from a DQ).  It was yummy still... :)  We really just relaxed and played with the kids, pretty typical for us.  We actually ended up going to be relatively early because we had to leave really early in the morning for her half marathon.

She had originally signed up for this half marathon because she and Gaetan were going to run it together... however, Gaetan hurt his knee and hadn't really had the sufficient amount of time to train for it, so he didn't sign up.  She was hoping to run it under 2 hours, but forgot that it was going to be in the heat of July.  She lives in Seattle and definitely wasn't used to this kind of heat... and frankly, living here I'm still not used to it.

We woke up at 3:30 am to leave by 4.  We had to pick her packet up before 6:30 and the race started at 7.  When we left the house it was already almost 80 and the humidity was intense.  She luckily was meeting a friend there to run, so she did have somebody to run with.  :)

After the packet pick up getting some energy chews down before the race

The moon was still out... that's how early it was.  I took this picture for Dude because he loves pointing out the moon.

Amy and Erin!
I wanted to cheer them on in different places so before the race started I took off to try and stake out a spot a few miles out from the start... well, this was a lot smaller of a race than we all expected and they didn't even have course maps!  So, I used my phone and I tried doing it that way, and realized that I was running around in the wrong spot... oof.  So, by the time I realized where I was supposed to be it was only a few minutes before the race so I cheered them on probably half a mile out. haha.

I know it's blurry... because they were going to fast!
I hung out for about an hour (I started reading 50 Shades of Grey) and then thought I should start walking/running the course backwards.  It. Was. So. Hot.  I would cheer runners on as they went by and their clothes were just saturated with sweat... those poor crazy fools.  I did get to see them and took a few pictures as they went zooming by!

During her last mile.  Doesn't even look like she was breaking a sweat... easy breezy.  :)  Look at those legs!  Whoo!

We are very proud of them for running that long distance and in the heat!  Those are two crazy things to do!  Way to go girls!
