Whelp, here we are a year later and I'm starting to run again! I have to admit that first run was brutal. My hips aren't back to normal so my gait was off, and the fact that I haven't done any serious exercise in a really long time probably contributed to the lack of oxygen going to important parts of my body. But, the important thing is I did it and its a small step (literally). I only ran for 3 songs... which is probably a little over half a mile, but it wasn't pretty. Getting fat and trying to lose it is a hard thing and I understand why people don't do it more often. It takes a lot of mental determination to do it and then making yourself do it while you're struggling.
Its also very difficult because a lot of my clothes don't really fit... so I feel like I'm that person out on the trails wearing to tight of clothes and loafing around being an eye sore to everybody else who is fit on them! But, I gotta start somewhere so here I am!
The second run wasn't as bad. I almost got 2 miles in and it didn't feel as terrible during the actual run, which is always a bonus. :) Gaetan is running as well, so its nice for the both of us to get out. My goal is to run the GR half this October, but we will see. I'm not under any time constraint, like I was for my fundraiser, so if I don't get to it no big deal. But I think my sister is going to try to come up and run it so that would be nice to do it together! :)
I went to Gazelle to see if my running shoes needed to be replaced and they said that they still had quite a bit of life left in them, which is amazing because I put nearly 900 miles on them! but the sad thing is that they don't make them anymore... WHAT?! I hate when you find something that you really love, and something as important as running shoes, and they stop making them! The guy at the store said it was because they were to minimal minimalist, to progressive for their time... which meant that they weren't as well received so they stopped making them. LAME. but the guy said that i could look online and see if any retailers bought in bulk and that was going to be my best bet. Well, lucky for me they did! Gaetan found a site where they were selling them for 50% off, so I bought a few pair... gotta stock up! So, I will be happy with my ugly minimalist shoes once again! :)
Here's to our journey of running again! I don't think that I will be training for another marathon, but I might get crazy again and do it. haha JK.
