I was debating on whether I should go to bed early so we started watching the new Star Trek movie because I figured I could always go to sleep if it didn't really catch my interest. Well, I was just hitting that really drowsy part, not because the movie was bad but because I was just getting tired, when both of our phones started buzzing and going off like crazy. I thought it was a little strange that anybody would be trying to get a hold of us that late at night so it must've been important! It wasn't anybody we knew but a severe weather warning text. It was saying that there was a tornado warning and that we should seek shelter immediately. Strange. We both kind of looked at each other like, what should we do? Should we actually do something or is this tornado not really near us? So we looked online and our place was right in the red zone, direct path, that the tornado was seen. Seconds after we saw that then the tornado sirens around us went off. Then, we jumped into action.
I quickly ran upstairs and got some blankets and pillows and made a little nest in our downstairs bathroom... safest place in our house. Centrally located, no windows and they always say get in the bath tub (in school). While I was doing that Gaetan was grabbing both of the crazies (that's impressive!) and I went and got Norah. Dude slept through the whole ordeal... getting tossed around from his bed, going down the stairs and then getting in the tub. Lucy on the other hand... not so much. She was actually a bit upset because she said she was scared because of the siren and she was disoriented. Norah made the transfer into the bathroom OK but then the lights woke her up so I quickly just nursed her back to sleep where she slept happily in my arms until it was over.
How they started out, but Lucy wasn't a fan of the new set up... |
Obviously, Dude didn't care |
It was quite the experience. Its scary to have the unknown going on and trying to be best prepared for your family. I didn't actually think that the tornado was going to come tear our place down, but you would feel like such a jerk if you did nothing and something happened. Lucy just hung out with Gaetan while Dude slept and Norah slept on me. It was quite the cozy little bathroom set up. Made me really happy that I keep our bathroom reasonably clean! haha.
After the warning was over Dude made the transfer back into bed no sweat. Norah made the transfer back to her bed as well... but then there was Lucy. She was WIDE awake... I think she thought that it was time to get up for the day. So, Gaetan went to bed (after I had to convince him to) and I stayed up with Lucy and we did the dishes, read, and hung out until I was to tired to do anything... that was around 2 a.m. We put her in our bed because I figured that she was going to be a terror and wake up the other two but then she kept kicking me and turning sideways. Something my Mom would say was revenge for when I did that when I was little... so I ended up on the couch and Papa and Lucy ended up with a sweet snugging all night.
We were both dead the next morning because of the previous nights excitement, but we were alive and everybody was safe. :) I do have to admit with all the crazy things that MI does throw at us, I have never had to worry about severe natural disasters and for that I am thankful.
