Gifts through a Dude's eyes

The other day we got some home schooling stuff from my sister and I just put it away on his shelf in the book case while they were out one day and didn't tell him about it.  There were some books, flash cards and some stencils.  Stencils that I had when I was a little girl... so you know they're old ;)

Anyways, while I was at capo today apparently Lucy found the stencils and walked over and gave them to Dude.  Because I didn't tell him about it he thought that Lucy was giving him a present.  He was happy about it, but he was speechless when he saw that there was one that had the entire alphabet on it.

Then, it was kind of like they had an understanding that since she gave him something he was supposed to do something nice her for... so she walked over to his shoes and pointed.  He said, "Lucy want to wear Dude's shoes?  Oh yes, Dude will help Lucy put them on."  So, he helped his little sister put on his sandals which she was apparently thrilled about.  She walked around in them like she was a big girl.  :)

This is a pic of them picking their noses at each other in the car...
I'm glad that the kids can do nice things for each other, and that they have an understanding of what meaningful things are.  I would like to think that Dude knows that she is all about his shoes (because she's always playing with them) and he would see that it would mean something to her.  And I would like to think that Lucy understand his love of letters (because, let's be real, it doesn't take a genius to see that).  That gifts are nice, but gifts that actually mean something to the other one is much more thoughtful, even if it is a hand-me-down or just letting your sister wear something of yours.
