There are days that I feel badly for my children... these poor kids didn't ask to be born into a family with two nerdy scientist parents... but... they did... so they will happily spend their weekends at the library doing things like astronomy day! haha. Once again, I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Portage Library. They host a number of different activities to do on the weekends and all the librarians that we see on a regular basis suggested that we take the kids to this because they would love it. Turns out, they were right!
The crazies had a much better time with actual astronomy day and Norah loved being able to play in the preschool room. There were many different activities that they had going on and all of it, of course, dealt with learning more about astronomy. The first station they went too was a star making station... pretty craft oriented but it was perfect to get them warmed up to the idea of being around others. Then, they made their own constellations... which I thought was pretty cool. They took old tin cans and then put a pattern of a constellation on top and then used a hammer to poke holes in it. Then, of course, you can hold it up to a light or put a light inside and cast it on the wall. There was a lunar calendar making station and another constellation one. There was room full of a bunch of cool pictures and free stuff (which the kids went to town on). There were a bunch of telescopes outside and even an expert to answer any questions you may have. One of the experts was the department head of physics from WMU haha.
It was a great deal of nerdy fun. :) I'm glad my kids enjoy such things!
