As per tradition we did a traditional Korean first birthday for Norah. I have to say that this one was the most work that I personally put in, but I think that it turned out really nicely and we all had a good time! :) I was fortunate enough to be able to use my parents house as a party venue, but this year with all the snow it hadn't melted in time and there wasn't going to be any room for parking, so we held it at the clubhouse at our complex. Which meant I was responsible for things like plates, silverware and things like that that I didn't have to think about before! And decorating... but that turned out to be a nice little girls night with my friend Jane.
I have to give a huge shout out to Momma G's mom for making all the bulgolgi marinade for all of the kids. I felt like that was a huge part of the food and it is ALWAYS delicious. This year I have to give many many thanks to the Mins for all their help. They know far more about actual Korean traditions than I and Jane is so creative so she helped me get organized with the things that needed to be done. It was very fortunate as well that she had a lot of crafting things which made the decorating part a lot easier. :)
Friday night Jane and I did crafts over wine (it was really fun!) and then Saturday I spent decorating the club house and prepping the food that I could. The Mins did come over for some jambalaya that night so the kiddos got to play. Sunday was our big day! I was extremely pleased with how the party turned out and all the people who attended. It was perfect.
Miss Norah picked a microphone (entertainer) and string (long life). It was funny because we gave her two times to try and each time she went to the exact same spot... so I was wondering if we just would've kept placing different things in that spot if she would've gone for it. Ever since Dude found out that we were playing a game to see what item Norah would choose he kept telling us that she was going to pick the microphone and that he was going to win the raffle. And, you better believe it... he did! He kept telling everybody else to pick the microphone as well (which did have the most guesses) but he was the winner. It was impressive.
Happy birthday to our sweet Norah! Her smiley face adds so much joy to our lives.
JVG
