Riverbank

This year I ran the Riverbank with Hannah, but we did the 10K instead of the 25K.  We had done one previous race together in January and that was something she just wanted to try to see if she could finish.  Now that she knew that she could she wanted to try and do it under an hour.  We had driven up the night before because we knew that the morning was going to be early but the power went out!  Holly had picked up our packets before during the day because i had to work late on Friday night.  Saturday morning rolled around and it was miserable weather.  I felt badly because I didn't want the kiddos to have to wait around getting cold and wet, so I made the last minute decision to let them sleep in and not get drenched.  I luckily made this decision early enough so I got to carpool with Quebra and Dizzy, who this was their first 10K as well!  Unfortunately for me and Hannah we didn't get to meet up before the race at all... in fact, the race had already started by the time we met up and got her bib on her and everything.  I told her that they were doing the start in waves because there were so many runners so she didn't freak out.  It was hard because a lot of the exits and roads were closed off and she isn't familiar with the area at all so there was a lot of driving around and being confused.  We tried to get in through the start chute but one of the volunteers told us we had to walk all the way to the back of the chute just to walk to the beginning... it was a little annoying.  Luckily, for this race time starts when you cross the start so it didn't really matter that we were late!

When we started running I was going to listen to music but keep an ear bud out but for some reason my music was really soft and I couldn't hear anything... so I just put it away since it was rainy and gross out anyway.  We had probably run about half a mile when we finally caught up with the motorcycle who was following the last runner haha.  Quebra and Dizzy started with everybody else but we caught up with them a few miles in and said hello!

It was a MISERABLE cold race, but I preferred that to it being hot and humid.  We were soaked to the bone by the time we finished and the last few miles we were flying!  We took too long in the beginning chatting and stuff, but we finished just 20 seconds over what she wanted... so we joked that we would have to run another race again ;)

After the race I walked Hannah to her car because she wasn't sure where she had parked or how she was gonna get to a highway, so I made sure that she found her way home.  Unfortunately, she left without getting her finishers medal so I grabbed that for her to give to her the next time we saw them.  While I walked back to meet up with Quebra and Dizzy I missed them and they had already finished and were hanging out at the beer tent.  We did finally meet up and on our walk back to the car I saw my dad parking.  He was there cheering Dale on who was running the 25K.  It was funny because I saw him parking and I just started running after the car and Quebra and Dizzy thought I was seriously just running after a random car haha.

I'm glad that I was able to run another race with Hannah and be there to celebrate with Quebra and Dizzy on their amazing accomplishment!  way to go everybody!  Whoo!
