New Beginnings

Friday was an absolute dream with Bugga.  He's back to his normal, charming, silly, lovable, cuddly self.  ::sigh::  How wonderful.  :)  I know that the earlier days were challenging, and honestly, out of all the days that he's been alive to have a few bad ones here and there are a blessing!  I just wonder what he's going through when he's having rough days.

This weekend we helped some good friends move into their new home!  :)  First time home owners... how exciting!  Bugga woke up rather early... 6:42 this time, but it was good because we had to get up around that time anyways to drive across the state to help our friends.  I obviously wasn't going to be much help so I was going to take Tristan shopping with Gaetan's Mom at Ikea while they moved.  Well, we were almost there and we got a call from her saying that she fell down some stairs and broke her toe!  I was glad that she didn't hurt herself worse... but for some reason I thought that there was some humor in the whole thing.  She was going down the stairs to get her shoes, which she fell onto... She was laughing about it so that made me feel like she was in good spirits.  And Ikea isn't a place where you want to go walking around on a broken toe!

So Bugga and I hung around helping our friends move out of their apartment into their home.  We took a couple of walks around their new place's neighborhood to stay out of the way of moving, which was nice.  A little chilly, but he seemed to love it.  We called Gaetan's Mom later in the day, because she still wanted to meet up, and turns out she broke two toes!  We did end up meeting her for dinner, which was really nice to see her.

We got home around 9:30 and Bugga really hadn't had a nap all day.  The dude did great for waking up early, being strapped into a carseat for most of the day, and staying up late.  :)  Good work Bugga! and when we got home he went poop in the big boy potty... which was fantastic because changing a soiled cloth diaper in public is kind of an ordeal, so I was thankful for that!

This weekend has been great.  Next week we are helping my parents paint, and put in hardwood floors into the rooms we're moving into.  Less then a week in the apartment...

Signing

Bugga has been more vocal lately and seems to be babbling a lot more.  Which we are very excited about and it's super cute.  He has learned a lot of animal sounds and will proudly do them anytime he's asked.

A lot of people have asked me if I thought that all his signing would hinder his verbal communication, and I honestly didn't know.  He communicates great with us through signing, but I know a lot of other kids his age that say more words.  I wouldn't say I was worried about it, but I was definitely keeping an eye on it.

However, when we were at the library, one of the Mom's saw us signing together and she said, "oh that's great that you're doing that!  I did it with my daughter."  We talked about it a little bit and I asked her if it seemed like her daughter had been delayed with speaking because she could sign.  She told me that she would just speak and sign at the same time and she didn't think that it would hinder Bugga at all.

It was encouraging to hear that because I enjoy signing with him but I don't want to be a hindrance in any way!  So it was nice to have some reinforcement from other successful parents.  :)

Good end to the rough week

As I blogged before the beginning of the week had been a little rough.  Thursday morning Tristan woke up at 6:24... which is about 2 or so hours earlier then he usually does!  I was a little nervous about that because this is also one of Gaetan's 11 hour days... and sometimes its hard to fill that day when he gets up at 8:30 or 9!  So my first thought was, 'What am I going to do with him all day?'

Well, since he had gotten up so early we got ready while Papa got ready for work and we drove him there so I could have a vehicle.  He was generally pretty good with having me around.  I was worried that when Gaetan got out of the car he would be upset, but he didn't seem to mind.  We did a few errands in the morning and I was all set for him not taking a nap, like he had done previously in the week.  Then, he fell asleep in the car on the ride home just minutes before we got there.

I tried to get him upstairs as quickly and quietly as possible but he woke up and then seemed wide awake.  We still laid down, because it was about nap time.  I realized then that we were having a battle of wills between Momma and Bugga... that he in fact did want to take a nap, but he just wanted to see who would win out.  Well, I did.  :)  And he took a gloriously long nap.  I kinda feel like this whole week has been to see what he can get away with if he persistently does what he wants... and as the Momma I couldn't be letting that happen.  As soon as I recognized what he was doing, it made things easier.

We then got up and had some lunch and realized that it was happy hour at Steak n Shake so we got some shakes and brought one to Papa at work.  :)  It was nice to see him in the middle of his long day and I'm sure he liked the tasty treat.  We then walked to the downtown library, which is a couple of blocks.  That's a long way for a little duder!  We spent about 2.5 hours there, in which we read half a book.  There were some puzzles and toys that he really enjoyed, and then some other kids came too that he played with.  We were going to go to the children's museum, but he was so into being at the library we just stayed there until we had to pick Gaetan up from work.

The day went marvelously better than I had anticipated and I was very grateful for that.  Gaetan said that he had been praying hard for me at work, and there were a handful of the students that he's gotten to know pretty well praying for me too!  It was felt and much appreciated.

Rough week

I know it's only Wednesday but this week has been the toughest one yet.  Tristan has decided that he's not a big Momma fan this week so he's been unhappy with everything I do.  It usually starts in the morning with him waking up, crying and screaming because I'm not Papa and then runs out of the room looking for him.  He usually meanders back in when he realizes hes stuck with me and gives me a scowl that says, "Great. You again."  It's not a very pleasant way to wake up.

The rest of the day ranges from him throwing fits and doing naughty things he knows hes not supposed to, to him not wanting anything to do with me.  I suppose the latter means I can get my own stuff done, but it's still not very nice when I wanna play or read with him or something.  The other day I finally asked Gaetan to come home early from his long day at work and as soon as he walked through the door Tristan yells out, "yeah!" and started clapping.  Then, he proceeded to play with Papa and be the good natured boy that he normally is.

I know that he probably gets sick of seeing me day in and day out, and this will pass, but its just hard on me right now.  Might be the pregnancy hormones, but I miss my Bugga.  Lots of prayers are continually being said!  For patience, and understanding...

Potential good news

While at my parents for dinner tonight my Mom said that Gaetan got a letter from Western.  We were just hoping that it was something saying that they got all the pieces of his application in and all things where good... and not that they were missing something else.  Well... it was a letter notifying Gaetan that they were putting him up for candidacy for the PhD program there instead of the Masters!  Whoo!  So they were impressed enough with his application that they thought he could be a good fit for PhD instead.  Which, in our minds, kinda means that they have already accepted him into their Masters program... but we aren't going to get too ahead of ourselves.  :)  Good things are on the horizon I believe.

New Discovery

Also... I discovered that peanut butter on french toast is amazing.  It might be a pregnancy thing but it was DELICIOUS.  So delicious we're having brinner so I can have it again!  muah hahaha.

Stay at home Momma part 2

This week I have been doing a lot of running around.  All necessary, but not all fun.  Grand Valley has, for another year, screwed up by not sending in Gaetan's transcripts to the grad schools.  So we decided that we would just personally get them from Grand Valley and mail them ourselves... or in this particular case drive them to the university, as the deadline was the next day!

Gaetan had talked with people on the phone at WMU, and they told him everything he needed to complete his application.  Since their deadline was in 2 days after he talked with them, I told him that I would take care of it since I have the time to do it.  Well, something that should've taken a few minutes on campus ended up taking me 3 hours!  I couldn't really find where I was supposed to go, being a big ole pregnant lady I was more concerned about finding a bathroom, and then when I got there they kept sending me to different places.  Luckily, we did get everything figured out and I think all things are now in order.  I think that we are finally finished dealing with Grand Valley and all their incompetancies once and for all!  Which is nice.

I took Tristan with me on our adventures all over town and he was such a good dude.  He was either in his carseat or the stroller for the majority of the day and he was a champ about it.  No fussing, no being upset.  I couldn't have been more proud of what a Big Boy he was!  And when Gaetan called the few departments he had to to follow up all they could say was, "You're the one with the adorable baby right?"  hahaa.

I am glad that I was able to help him out in this capacity... another perk of being a stay at home Momma.  I would've hated for him to take time off to get this taken care of, when it shouldn't have been an issue to begin with!  But I am learning to enjoy the journey :)

Blessed to be at Stay at home Momma

We have a friend who occasionally needs temp help at his job doing some piece-wise work.  Very easy work, not a lot of thinking, and if you're quick then you can make a pretty good amount of money!  He called and said that they had some CD's that needed stuffing... and since i have ninja lightening hands I told Gaetan I would go to work instead of him.  Thursday's are one of his long days... he goes in a 8 and doesn't get out til 7!  We did some calculating to see how many I would have to do in order to make the same amount he did in his day.  I luckily did mine in 8 hours and he got to spend the day with Bugga.  It was also good because he got to stay home from work and hopefully give his voice a rest!  He lost it when he started getting sick and it still hasn't fully returned.

I think Bugga enjoyed the change of pace.  He plays extra hard with Papa and it showed!  He took a 4 hour nap!  They played for a really long time outside though because the weather was so nice.  I'm so grateful that I have a Papa that likes staying home and playing with his son :)

Even though the work I was doing wasn't very demanding physically, or mentally, I was sure glad to be home at the end of it.  My hats off to women who work while they're pregnant, and for those who make it work as a single parent.  I missed Bugga something fierce while I was stuffing CD's... but knew he was well taken care of!

Today I went over to my parents to help them de-clutter and reorganize some of the stuff that the kids have left behind.  They are so gracious to let us store things at their house that we don't immediately need... but then they have a lot of our junk to deal with when they want to do something. They ordered the stuff for the hardwood floors so those should be in before we move in!  Things are starting to come together :)

Feb 13th

Today was a great day.  Nothing real exciting happened, but it was all the little things.  :)  I woke up feeling the best I have in a long time.  The cold is really starting to leave my lungs and I can BREATH!  :)  Bugga and I had a fun little morning AND.... he went poopy on the potty with me!  Out of the two weeks that he's been poopy training he's always gone on the potty with Papa... never with me.  So, in a weird way, it was kinda nice :).

Church's message was really good and the weather was gorgeous today!  Almost a heat wave... haha.  Made it into the 40's.  All the snow is almost melted off our balcony, so it was a good thing we made our snowman yesterday.  He's already melted...

I got to eat a hamburger for a snack... haha and then we went to my parents to drop some more things off and helped them rip up the carpet out of two rooms.  Well, Gaetan helped them... they are going to put hardwood floors in the two rooms upstairs that we are going to stay in.

Grocery shopping went well... and I ate a ton of steak for dinner.  mmmm.... I got to make some rice pudding that Tristan wanted to eat and he wanted me to put him to sleep tonight.  Usually Gaetan does, but tonight I got too!

This week I will be 32 weeks... craziness.

Balcony snowman

Bugga and I had so much fun yesterday playing on the balcony we thought we'd do it again!  This time I realized that there was some GREAT packing snow to be had so we attempted to make our first snowman.  He wanted nothing to do with wearing his boots, coat or mittens... but he seemed to enjoy being outside with me.  What a sweet boy.

 Trying to get his footing
Momma showing him how to get started on a snowman
 The ditched winter clothes...
Our finished product!  Good ole' apartment living but we make do.

The potty training continues

Bugga has been doing so good since the last time I updated on you his pooping in the potty.  He has only pooped once in his diaper in about 2 weeks... and that was because Momma wasn't fast enough.  He woke up from his nap, stood up, and pooped... so I don't think that even with Papa lightening speed I could've gotten him there in time.

The funny thing about this new adventure is that he really only likes doing it with Papa.  It seems like a Bugga and Papa thing to do.  Strange bonding times... haha.  But if we are both home he will walk up to Papa and tell him that he has to poop instead of me, and Gaetan is so good with it too!  They read stories, or play with toys... and Bugga seems to really enjoy it.  He is learning so quickly... and he HATED it when he went in his diaper.  So, I think that means he getting the idea!  Yay!

Our balcony

Yesterday I thought our apartment was blazing hot... again... but the thermostat said that it was the normal temperature.  I was already sporting a t-shirt and some yoga capris so I wasn't over dressed.  I longingly looked outside, which was sunny, but apparently very cold.  I always want to take Bugga outside because I know he likes being outdoors, but with it being so cold out it seems irresponsible.  So we compromised....

The snow on our balcony is probably chest high on him still... so I opened up the slider, to let that heavenly cold air in and he could play in the snow still.  I got his coat, boots (which he LOVES) hat and all his outdoor gear on and he stood in our apartment playing in the snow.  I gave him a spoon to dig with and he went to town... that unfortunately lead to a lot of snow in our apartment, but it was worth it :)  Snow will eventually melt and become water, and then get soaked up with a towel... so I wasn't too worried about it.  He eventually ventured out into the balcony, and the snow was so hard that he could stand on it... until he started jumping :).  He had a great time, until he took his mittens off and his hands got cold.  All the while Momma was sitting in the door enjoying the cold air... everybody won.

He eventually came in, got some dry clothes on and took an epic nap.  I think the cold air does him some good too.  Again, I have pictures, and will put them up shortly.  :)

Recent happenings

Again, time has flown and it's been awhile since I have updated last!  In the past week there has been some interesting things going on :)

First off, everybody is sick :(  I was so sick I thought that I might have pneumonia, but we went to the Dr's and they said that it wasn't.  I was given two different inhalers to help... so that's good.  I am feeling better, but not great still.  Poor Bugga has a little cough now and a pretty snotty nose.  He's been doing generally pretty well at night for being so congested.  Poor Gaetan doesn't have a voice!  He says that he feels good except for sounding terrible.  So we took it easy today and just rested.

We also put in our month notice for this apartment.  It's earlier then our lease but we have to get out.  Gaetan ended up talking with the neighbor's downstairs husband, and they seemed to have some sort of understanding, and admittedly it has been a lot better... but we're not thinking that it will last for a long time.  We had the talk with my parents of what sorts of expectations they had of us living in their house and visa versa.  All good things.  Things are starting to fall into place very nicely... must be part of the plan :)  I am getting what I can ready to move into my parents place... things that we don't need right now we are taking over little bits at a time so hopefully when we move all our big things it won't seem overwhelming!

We also got to catch up with a couple friend that is moving to Korea to teach ESL.  It was nice to have them over for dinner and just kinda wrap things up before they leave!  Sometimes I'm envious of my friends that just pack up and move places, but I know that my situation is different.  If it was just me and Gaetan I'm sure that we would have an easier time of it, but there is just so much more to think about with a family.

We also got to have another couple over for dinner tonight which was really good.  We had a lot of great fellowship and just catching up on life.  Even though we live pretty close to each other, our lives are just busy enough that we can get together every now and again.  And I always like their visits... they're very much like us, but with no children!

I got to visit a friend today who just had a baby!  They already have a little girl and now they have a little boy.  I was a big envious of her while I was checking her FB status on having him and stuff because I can't wait to have Lucy out... but not envious at the same time because, well, labor isn't fun!  Little babies... awe.... :)

Blizzard blessings

With what they are calling the Blizzard of 2011 so far we as family have enjoyed the perks!  Because Gaetan works at a community college they hardly ever close school down, but he got TWO days off this week!!  !!  !!  What a special treat for this Momma.  We kinda figured that the first day was gonna happen because there were drifts outside that were taller than the snow blowers and taller than Tristan!  But the next day Gaetan actually got up, got ready for work and drove there only to find out that there was no school.  Luckily the roads weren't terrible and then he got to be home on one of his long days :)  He also go to tutor some people on that day off so he did get to make some money while spending lots of time with us!

Had my 30 week check up today.  Baby Lucy seems like she is growing at a reasonable pace.  Heart rate was around 150 and she is measuring nicely.  I am getting very excited about having her!!

I also got my hair cut/styled.  Got some bangs, and some extra layers.  We'll see how I can handle it... hahaha.  I'm not real girly, but I think that this might be OK.  Poor Lucy is gonna have to find some girlfriends who will help her with that aspect of life.  I will post some pics of my hair, and the blizzard soon.

Poopy in the potty

It has been about 2 weeks since Bugga realized that I have a potty just his size.  At first he was really interested in it and would go into the bathroom and kinda carry it around, but he would never sit on it.  Even when he didn't have a diaper on he REFUSED to sit on it and would straighten his body stiff as a board.  I was wondering how I was ever going to get him to want to sit on it....

One day he had already gone poop in his diaper but I took the diaper off and had him 'sit' on it for a little bit so he understood that's where he goes poopy.  At first he did the same body straightening thing, but then I got one of his favorite books out and he sat right down.  Not for a long time, but it was better than nothing at all.

This week though he has told me that he has to poop and he has gone twice in his potty without going in his diaper!!  :) :)  What a big boy!  I can't believe how fast he learns things, and with a little determination and perserverance potty training is going pretty well.

We took a picture the first time he successfully went in his own potty.. which may seem weird, but it was a good proud parent moment.  :)  Who knew poop could make one so happy.
